Janine often presents the early and lunchtime bulletins for Spotlight. She’s also one of the new breed of presenters who can film, edit and present their own features for the programme.

Janine was born in Essex, before moving to Dorset when she was just nine years old. She remembers telling her family: “When I grow up, I want to be a newsreader.” But in fact, Janine’s career actually started out on horseback!

She used to do three day eventing before deciding to return to the “real world”. Janine went to Harlow college to do A-levels as a mature student, then read English at Cambridge University, before doing broadcast journalism at Highbury College at Portsmouth.

During the course, Janine got her first ever radio job. “I used to do a weekly soap update on BBC Radio Solent,” she says. “And I remember getting my first ever cheque from the BBC – for just £5!” Janine then got a few weeks work in the sports department at Meridian Television in Southampton, before going to BBC Radio Jersey in 1998 for two years.

Whilst in the Channel Islands, Janine presented many radio programmes, including the weekly political ‘Talkback’ show and the television news. In the autumn of 2000 she moved to Spotlight where she’s been ever since!
