Sameena Ali-Khan began working in commercial radio in Manchester in 1991 and got my first break working for BBC Radio Lancashire as a travel reporter. I then moved into presenting shows at BBC GMR, BBC Asian Network, BBC WM and BBC London. I’ve also presented radio programmes for Radio 5 Live, and one broadcast Iâll never forget was an on location special about 9/11 from Ground Zero in New York. It was incredible and definitely an experience I’ll never forget.
It was while working in radio that Sameena Ali-Khan was asked to do a screen test. It went well and since then I’ve worked as a television reporter and presenter for various BBC programmes including Northwest Today, Inside Out, and Midlands Today.
Sameena Ali-Khan became one of the main anchors on ITV’s Central News East in 2005 and then after the merger of Central East and West I became one of the main presenters for ITV Central. Highlights include securing the only considered sit down interview with Tariq Jahan, the father who called for calm after losing his son during the riots of 2011 and visiting Buckingham Palace to interview the Duke of Edinburgh.
Sameena Ali-Khan has been lucky enough to win some awards including the RTS Best On Screen Personality in 2010, Internal News Group Best News Feature 2011, the Asian Arts and Cultural Society Media Professional of the Year 2004 and the Commission for Racial Equality Best Radio News Programme winner in 1998.
Ever since Sameena Ali-Khan started in the industry, she has compared many high profile award ceremonies and events. Among them the Prince of Wales Awards, Lloyds TSB Jewel Awards and Music concerts with the CBSO in Birmingham.
Away from TV Sameena Ali-Khan loves spending time with my family, my husband is my best friend, I have a gorgeous daughter and a wonderful son, I also love swimming, cooking, shopping, and my parents!
