Ishani Mistry began her broadcasting career during her time at the University of Birmingham, where she hosted and produced content for the university’s student television station, Guild TV. While completing her bachelor’s degree in Physical Geography and subsequent Master’s degree in Applied Meteorology and Climatology, she combined her passion for science communication with on-camera experience. This foundational period allowed her to develop the skills needed to bridge the gap between complex meteorological data and engaging public broadcasting.

Following her academic studies, she entered the private sector as a commercial meteorologist at MetDesk Limited, one of the UK’s leading weather forecasting companies. In this role, she provided high-stakes operational forecasting and critical risk assessments for major national infrastructure clients, including National Highways and Network Rail. Her work was vital for managing the operational impact of severe weather on the UK’s transport networks, establishing her credentials as a highly technical and precise climatologist.

In May 2026, Ishani Mistry transitioned into full-time broadcasting by joining the BBC Yorkshire weather team. Initially presenting across a variety of live regional radio stations, online platforms, and television bulletins, she quickly became a familiar face to viewers in the region. Her ability to translate technical climate science into relatable, daily updates rapidly established her as a core member of the BBC’s regional weather department.

Ishani Mistry’s career reached a significant milestone in September 2026 when she was officially named the new breakfast weather presenter for BBC Look North. In this high-profile role, she delivers the morning weather forecasts to millions of viewers across Yorkshire and parts of the North East. Alongside her television work, she continues to advocate for climate awareness, sharing behind-the-scenes insights into television production on her social media platforms and contributing analysis on global weather trends.

As a teenager Sabrina Lee was often curious about the weather, atmosphere and climate. How does it all work? Why does it rain? Why is the sky blue?

During her search for universities, Sabrina attended a Visit Day at the Department of Meteorology at Reading. Her experience of visiting the Department left her determined to secure a place to study an undergraduate degree at Reading, and start answering some of her burning questions.

The Department of Meteorology at Reading is the UK’s only dedicated university meteorology department, providing Sabrina with an ideal environment to explore the key themes of meteorology and climate.

Meteorology students can choose this module on weather forecasting, which involves practical classes and presentations to gain a full green screen experience.

Sabrina Lee joined BBC Wales in 2019 and is now presenting the weather to thousands of people each day.

Sabrina Lee credits the Department of Meteorology at Reading for its “support and guidance” in helping her to reach these goals.
